Flooding in Osogbo Fed. Constiuency: House of Reps Mandates NEMA to Provide Relief Materials for Victims, urged On-the-spot Assessment

The House of Representatives has urged the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, to provide relief materials for the communities affected by recent devastated flooding in Osogbo Federal Constituency in the State of Osun.

In a motion moved on the floor of the House of Representatives by Hon. Bukola Oyewo, who represents Irepodun/Olorunda/Orolu/Osogbo Federal Constituency in which he called the attention of the House to the negative impact of the flood on the lives and economic activities of the people of the area, that has led to decline in agricultural production and other water- borne diseases"

The House of Representatives also urged the Federal Ministries of Water Resources and Environment, and Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority to urgently visit the affected communities for an on-the-spot assessment of the effect of the menace and assess the possibly of constructing water channels to prevent further flooding. The House however mandated the House Committees on Environment, Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, Ecology Fund and Water Resources to visit the affected areas to ascertain the extent of damage caused by the flooding for the purposes of appropriating funds in the 2020  budget estimates to address the problem.

Recall that the challenge of flooding in Osogbo federal constituency was enormous and the need for support of the Federal Government in finding a lasting solution to the menace has become imperative as many victims have been rendered homeless, apart from losing their sources of livelihood.
